Kathryn Williams
Hugo Bower HOD Hawera High School (May 2013)
I have known Kath since 1998, especially in her role as Alternative Education contractor. Right from the start, Kath impressed me with her efficient, professional manner - an approach that not only inspired confidence with the students, but generated the results we were looking for. We needed an effective training regime which assisted students not only academically, but also in their personal development.
Kath ran programmes which enhanced student learning and she also showed a genuine interest in each individual. Many of these students now live a successful life, partly due to the mentoring and guidance that Kath exposed them to.

“Kath Williams is a fantastic writer!!! I have had the privilege of seeing her incredible writing talent put to use, in all types of situations. This awesome creative art is showcased through Kath’s poem writing. Just give her some details of a situation or person and she will create a lengthy, funny (if appropriate) poem containing several verses.
Alternatively Kath can AND DOES use her talent to write reports, cook books, programmes and schemes of work for just about any organisation or subject.
Seriously, Kath is one amazing woman with so much potential to share.”

I am a novice writer and having launched into writing my autobiography found myself wondering how I would ensure the story made sense and was a good "read". As I got toward the end of my book [this took 5 years] I found I needed someone to help with editing [in all its facets]. This is a difficult task trying to find the best person to fulfill such a role. I made a number of inquiries on the internet and after many attempts finally found Kath Williams. My search for the right person I discovered [apart from the obvious necessary skills set required] Kath had a wonderful sense of what I wanted to achieve and was so patient and helpful [to me] achieving the outcome that I required and was necessary.
I will always hold her in great esteem and would recommend her to anyone needing her services.

I worked with Kath in my capacity as the Manager of a Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Facility. Kath was one of the staff and I utilized her writing skills on various occasions.
Initially, Kath was able to give me a thorough critique and overview of our service from a cultural perspective, gender bias perspective and learning perspective. This type of documentation was very helpful for service planning and quality improvement. Kath writes from an objective perspective and provides well thought through rationale for her recommendations and opinions.

Kath’s experience in writing an alternative education programme was helpful when considering a health module we were implementing. She was able to bring a different perspective, which would help us connect with our clientele; often individuals who had not survived in the school system. Kath has strength in community networking and I was impressed with her ability to draw from the resources in the community. This added immensely to our programme. Kath’s ability to incorporate arrange of learning styles into one module was also of strength.
Finally, Kath wrote and set up a healthy eating / meal planning programme in our residential facility. This was a mammoth task and she worked quickly and efficiently to make it happen. This was very well thought out and again Kath pulled on the network’s she had established doing the health module to provide a robust healthy eating programme that I believe is still in place today. Recipes were easy to read and follow and the grocery template was very effective.

I was presented with a beautiful poem written on a lovely scroll for my 50th birthday. The creative writing really showcased my personality and brought together all of my interests in a very special and memorable way. It was not only humorous but also very sentimental and is something I will cherish forever, it was a wonderful and very special gift.
What a journey Kath took me on while writing her book about growing up in the 60s.
Rekindled old memories and re-connected with many people from my childhood that I hadn't seen in years.
The book is great, a wonderful skip down memory lane.
Very well written and compiled.
I am looking forward to the next volume.

I Remember When Growing up in Taranaki in the 1960s Kathryn Williams April 2016 Waiting for the book in the post was too much, after reading of the launch in Hawera, and seeing photos on Facebook. Having finished reading it over two evenings, it was worth the wait. Despite being four years older, the stories and memories invoked strong memories, as my two brothers were younger, and their school mates featured in the book. Who knew Mr Sole, the coal man who delivered his bags of coal down to the back of our house, also had to bag the coal down at the railway station, not many yards from our home. Who knew that the boys featured, had mischievous lives outside of school. Each chapter created memories of the people who filled our lives, at school, and in the community. Arthur Fryer, our Intermediate teacher, writing of life in Hawera for teachers. Certainly something we were unaware of, in our pre-teen years. Memories of Somerset House, opposite our home; the Repertory Society shows that we went to; teacher’s names; games played at school; fish and chip nights; introduction of T V. School friends lives that did not reflect mine. Thanks to the writer for the memories from Sunday school, primary, intermediate and High School. And for a sleepless night, remembering my childhood – similar – but mostly unlike mine. So sorry I was on the first bus out of town, once HHS was finished with.
